Discover The Best SEO Strategy You Should Know

By Reed Slidell

Are you a complete newcomer when it comes to search engine optimization? Maybe you have just set up your first ever website and now you are at a lost on what to do next when it comes to making it rank high for your targeted keywords. Then you can take this simple SEO strategy to help you understand what you should be doing first so you can best promote your website.

If you haven't, I suggest that you go read or watch a Market Samurai review. It is a nifty tool that can help you do a lot of things, but primarily help you do detailed keyword research. It is not free but it is certainly worth the price since it would make it a lot easier for you to find your keywords. And finding your keywords is the first step that you should be doing. While the best tools are often the paid ones, there are also free keyword research tools that you can do, primarily that of the Google Adwords Keyword tool. When doing your research, do not just settle with one or two-word keywords because chances are the competition would be fierce. You should go after the long tail keywords which are keywords that have 3 or more words. Generally it would be easier to rank for those terms.

When you already have your set of keywords then your next step would be putting those keywords on your website. The most important placement for the ultimate in SEO effect would be the title tag of your website, including all the other web pages. Most search engine optimization experts agree that the title tag is the best on page optimization that you can do for your website. In fact, as long as the keyword is in the title tag, even if it cannot be found anywhere else within the page, you can still rank well for that keyword. Of course it would not hurt to put your keyword within the web copy twice or thrice, especially if the word count is at least 500.

Your website now has all the keywords in place, it is then time to do off page optimization. This is mostly about link building and the most important component of a link (or a backlink which is just a link pointing to your website) would be the anchor text. It is what describes a link, often it says what the website is all about. Therefore you should use your target keyword in place of the anchor text. But that is only if you can request the owner of that website to use your desired anchor text.

Just a quick reminder. Never buy links. The major search engines do not like this tactic and should you be found out engaging in this activity, your website would be penalized. How? By not showing your site in the search results for your desired keywords. Should that happen, your website traffic would surely go down.

But you should not just focus all of your efforts on building links alone. There are other off page optimization tactics that you can try. For instance, you can try social bookmarking. But do not overdo it because you might risk getting banned from the social bookmarking sites.

So this is the beginner's SEO strategy that you should never miss doing. If you are just getting your feet wet on SEO, this will provide you with the best results for as long as you are doing it right.
